10-Jan-2017  University of Mindanao holds 1st Mindanao-wide Conference on Internationalization and UMAP Orientation


The University of Mindanao had successfully conducted a one-day conference on internationalizing higher education institutions and UMAP orientation last October 12, thereby educating participating school officials about the nature and ropes of internationalization in academic institutions.

The conference, which was the first in Mindanao region, discussed about the trends and challenges in internationalization, as well as the background and objectives of UMAP as a network that promotes and facilitates academic mobility. It also sought to invite and accept new members in UMAP.

Moreover, the conference was graced by international and home resource speakers who shared their invaluable input in the area of internationalization. They were: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazrina Yahya, the Director of International Relations Centre of the National University of Malaysia in Malaysia; Dr. Lourdes Nepomuceno, the President of UMAP Philippines; and Ms. Joy Christine Gitau, the Chief Education Program Specialist of Philippine’s Ministry of Education International Affairs Staff.

It was attended by over 60 participants ranging from School Presidents, Vice President for Academic Affairs and External and International Relations Officers, who all came from different regions in Mindanao.

This conference is a pioneering endeavour by UM to help educate and empower academic institutions in strengthening their respective linkages especially through internationalization efforts.
