Nanzan University itself was founded in 1946 as a college of foreign languages by a christian society called “the Society of the Divine Word”. All Nanzan education is conducted by the motto “Hominis Dignitati” which means “for the dignity of all human beings”.                                           
The Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) at Nanzan University was established in 1974 and it has consistently provided high quality education of intensive Japanese language and culture courses.
