| Toyo University was founded by Dr. Enryo Inoue in 1887 as Academy of Philosophy in Tokyo with the basic spirit, “The basis of all learning lies in philosophy.” It has now become a comprehensive university consisting of 13 faculties, 13 graduate schools, and a law school in its five campuses with more than 32,000 students, including 1200-strong international students. In 2014 Toyo was selected by the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) as one of the 37 universities nationwide for the Top Global University project. Japanese Culture and Society
～Traditional x Modern, Urban x Rural～
Toyo Summer Program Ⅱ 2018 will examine Japanese culture and society, comparing traditional and modern, as well as urban and rural Japan. The program will be a combination of classroom activities, field trips, and experiential learning. Most of the program will take place in Tokyo, but participants will also have an opportunity to do a homestay with Nouka-minshuku (farming families) in Noto, a farming village in Ishikawa Prefecture on the Sea of Japan. While in Noto, participants will experience hands-on field activities such as forest preservation and agriculture. At the end of the program, participants will give presentations on Japan's attractive qualities from an international perspective.
