Chiba University (Program VII- Landscape Design Workshop)

"Landscape Design Workshop"
Purpose:
Intensive landscape design workshop aimed at revitalizing cities and regions and creating a sustainable environment by investigating open spaces and vacant houses in Matsudo or a similar city. In this project, participants will learn how to plan and design the landscape to solve issues in local communities through practical fieldwork at sites designed with the community in mind. Through this work, students will be able to develop their own skills and sense of community design. Also the students will experience Japanese culture through communication with local people as well as cross cultural design collaboration of students from different cultural backgrounds.

Special Lecture about the history and current situation of the site
First impression Haiku Map making through vistiting the site area
Team building and site investion (interview, observation, collecting data, etc.)
Walking for making a district plan
Brushing Up of the District Plan Site Design Concept
Midterm Presentation of District Plan & Site Design Concept
Design work
Improvement of site design
Presentation Critique from the teachers
Refurbishment of the draft planning and design proposal
Presentation to Local community of the project site
< Option > According to the requests from the community and our conditions, some parts of the program schedule will be changed to participate a festival held in the local community. Participants may be able to have a chance to join the activity and communicate with local people through the event.

Every participant must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in an institution of higher education that has concluded an inter university agreement with Chiba University or has a possibility of concluding an agreement in the near future.
